The Big Sing: Community Sing at The National Cathedral

Join a Community Sing in the National Cathedral and experience the benefits of singing together. It’s the second-largest cathedral in the United States and the third-tallest building in Washington, DC. Now, feel the reverberating acoustics of the National Cathedral for yourself with this FREE event! The Kennedy Center, the Washington National Cathedral, and Levine Music team up to present this community sing for everyone. No singing experience is required—just BYOV (bring your own voice)! Experience the social and psychological benefits of singing together in one of the most beautiful spaces in DC. The community sing will be led by musical bridge-builder Micah Hendler, Founder & Artistic Director of the Israeli-Palestinian Jerusalem Youth Chorus and leader of monthly community sings at Levine Music

About Micah Hendler
Micah Hendler is the Founder and Artistic Director of the Jerusalem Youth Chorus (JYC), an Israeli-Palestinian music and dialogue project raising youth voices for peace, justice, inclusion, and equality from the TED stage to America’s Got Talent. In addition to his ongoing bridge-building work in Jerusalem, Micah has brought his JYC experience back home, using music to collaborate with multiple organizations working to build bridges across American divides. Micah was listed as a Forbes 30 Under 30 for Music in 2017, has a degree in Music and International Studies from Yale (where he sang with the Whiffenpoofs and many other ensembles) and brings decades of musical experience from different global traditions to this work. He has studied Community Singing and CircleSinging with GRAMMY-winning composers Ysaÿe Barnwell and Roger Treece, and uses these techniques to open up the concept of who is allowed to sing and what singers can do together.
